Family Counseling

“We begin to heal and live our best lives as a family when we believe that everyone is doing the best they can with what they have at that point in time and love them where they are at in their life, change our perceptions of their actions and remove all judgemental thoughts.” - Dr. Janis E. Lucky

As the quote suggests, Dr. Lucky’s approach to the family in counseling is not to just alleviate pain but to utilize the pain for growth! To teach the family about utilizing a systemic approach to healing, connecting and renewing and establishing healthy familial dynamics that will foster productive relationships.

We all start this life with a family, whether that family is composed of blood relatives, adopted parents, or a foster family. This family that we acquire when we are born influences every aspect of our lives, from our first moments to our last.

Family affects who we are and who we become, both for the better and for worse. We learn our vocabulary, our habits, our customs and rituals and how to view, observe and relate to the world around us.

We also learn how to love and how to interact with others from these first important relationships. If we are born into a healthy family with healthy relationships, we are likely to learn how to maintain healthy relationships. If we are born into a dysfunctional family that struggles to connect, we may also struggle to connect with others. Dr. Lucky’s vision for families is to learn to love each other where they are at while becoming what each other needs them to become to invest in their best life familial connections.

Absolutely inspired.

“Dr. Lucky’s willingness to become part of our family to understand our family was ingenuous. By counseling my family as a whole and always remaining neutral in our sessions bought our family much closer. My children gained an understanding of how their choices can impact a family and my husband and I realized that we have to let our children grow and utilize the tools we gave them to make their own decisions.”

Blessed Beyond Measure.

“Dr. Lucky’s historic transparency is only matched by her willing to fight for familial reunification when it seemed all else failed. Doc continued to step outside of the realms of traditional counseling because keeping it real with us forced us to grow, love and understand each other on a deeper level. Blessed Beyond Measure.”
